For Immediate Release
The Downtown Georgetown BIA Board is very pleased to welcome their new manager, Kay Matthews. BIA Board Chair, Syl Carle said “I am looking forward to working with Ms Matthews who brings a background rich in experience with community economic development, local government, historical communities, communications and event coordination”.
Ms Matthews formerly served as BIA Manager in Streetsville and as the Communications Director with the Mississauga Arts Council. She has been the Event Manager for Carassauga – Mississauga’s Festival of Cultures and the Mississauga Santa Claus Parade as well as a volunteer of the Streetsville Founders’ Bread and Honey Festival for over 20 years.
The first order of business for Ms. Matthews will be to navigate Downtown Georgetown through upcoming road reconstruction, providing liaison between project and site managers and businesses. The project is expected to take several months in various stages of construction so keeping the public up-to-date on how to get in and out of Main Street to visit their favourite businesses is also high on the job-list. A recently launched redesigned web-site (www.downtowngeorgetown.com) will be one of her most important tools.
Kay Matthews expressed her enthusiasm for her new position by saying “Historic downtowns such as Georgetown are the backbone of our country and the fibre that binds a community together. I am proud and delighted to work in Georgetown and assist with the work started by so many that benefits us all”.
