Olympic Flame Passes through Halton Hills!

The Town of Halton Hills has been chosen as one of 1000 Canadian communities to be proud hosts of the Olympic Flame as it passes through on its way towards the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games on December 19, 2009.

In less then a month, the eyes of the world will turn to our community as the Olympic Flame arrives in Halton Hills as part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC and supported by the Government of Canada.
The Town of Halton Hills has been chosen as one of 1000 Canadian communities to be proud hosts of the Olympic Flame, as it passes through on its way towards the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The Olympic Torch procession is expected to enter Halton Hills from the east at approximately 7:00 a.m. via Norval, day 51 of the Torch Relay, being December 19th, 2009. Click here and Select day 51

Everywhere you look in Halton Hills, excitement is building for the arrival of the Olympic Flame and everyone is invited to come out and cheer it on its journey to Vancouver. On December 19, we’re expecting hundreds and maybe thousands to turn out for this emotional once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Olympic Flame in person right here in our community and feel inspired by its universal message of peace, brotherhood and friendship.

CHEER on the torch bearers as they carry the Olympic flame through Halton Hills. Route details will be revealed on Monday, December 7th at Halton Hills. Line the Torch Relay Route and watch for great events throughout the community!

DO YOU KNOW someone that has been selected in our community (currently 7 torchbearers have come forward), if so; have them contact Frank Prospero at the Town at 905-873-2601 ext. 2262 or frankp@haltonhills.ca, so they can be part of our celebrations. Unfortunately VANOC cannot provide us with this information. The presenting partners Coca-Cola and RBC, have begun making some public announcements about torchbearers across Canada.

About the Torch Relay
The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will begin its 106-day Canadian journey on October 30, 2009. The Flame’s pan-Canadian journey will culminate on February 12, 2010 when it arrives in Vancouver for the Opening Ceremony before a global viewing audience of billions.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay route will be the longest domestic Torch Relay in Olympic history, stretching over 45,000 kilometres throughout Canada. Upon its conclusion, the Olympic Flame will have been welcomed in over 1,000 communities and passed within one hour of more than 90 per cent of the entire Canadian population. The Government of Canada is a proud supporter of the Olympic Torch Relay helping to bring the Olympic Flame to as many Canadians as possible.

VANOC is responsible for the planning, organizing, financing and staging of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.
