This building is part of the original O’Neil Block. This block housed the Culp and McKenzie Carriage Works which operated until 1898, when the business was bought by John O’Neil and renamed the J. N. O’Neil & Son Carriage Works.
After 1898, John O’Neil enlarged the building. The building was destroyed by fire in 1922, along with R.H. Thompson & Co. Hardware store, W.C. Anthony’s stable and storehouse, H.C. Bailey’s electrical supplies, W.A. Bailey’s harness store and the Oddfellows rooms. By 1923, the construction of the present building was underway.
