Moments in History
The entire building occupies lots 21, 22 & 23 of the Morris Kennedy Survey. In 1867, the property was purchased by Benjamin Thompson. Mr. Thompson ran a hotel from this site. Upon his death in 1890, Nathaniel Brown purchased the lots. Several businesses have been tied to this location including a garage and a brewery. Mr. Sam Mackenzie recalls that the building was moved several feet to the north from its original location during the Guelph St. expansion. The building appears marked as two dwellings on the 1922 Fire Insurance Map.
